A typical coating drying installation on a 7m off-machine coater
  • Compact Engineering short-wave dryers are ideal for coating drying applications.

  • To the left is shown an installation on a 7m off-machine coater running up to 1500mpm. The existing IR dryers were replaced with Compact dryers which achieved a 32% better drying performance.

  • Binder migration is controlled by the penetration of the IR through the coating to the base sheet.

  • Porosity is improved as the evaporation takes place from within the coating and not from the surface as it does with gas IR or hot air dryers.
Shown below is a double-sided coating installation. Fully powered Compact dryers can face one another without any problems - yielding power densities in excess of 1MW/m2. Another unique feature of Compact Apollo coating dryers is that the infra-red acts as a flotation dryer, with integral Coanda nozzles forming an attachment to and thereby supporting the sheet through the dryer.
